Back To The Future

Song of the week comes from the classic movie franchise.  And, of course... our wedding playlist!

Everything has been full-on this week and I feel like I am living my own Back to the Future film.  I ran out of time to complete this blog entry on time and a quick glance at my advent calendar shows that I have already arrived on 19th December:

Already in the future!

I have now completed about 20 hours of simulator training at work and I have worked my way through all of the procedures from the pilot checklist:

Pilot checklist

The first 32 pages of the checklist are the NORMAL drills, the next 262 pages are the EMERGENCY drills!  We have to complete each of the emergency drills in the simulator at least once and next week, I will be teaching the emergency drills as part of my instructor training programme.

I have managed to start working out at the gym again in between work sessions as part of my 'fit in my 40s' plan.  Thankfully the gym on base is pretty well appointed:

Boys' room

Girls' room

I know it's wrong to gender stereotype based on colour.  Or types of fitness equipment.  But I thought that it might be a bit funny.

Last week's horse of the week finally made an appearance this week:

Horses of the week

Here it is in its paddock next to this week's horse of the week AND next week's horse of the week too!  A hat trick of horses :)

Matched betting picked up this week and the total for my first month is £538.98  I have also tried my first Dutch Bet.  A Dutch Book is a set of odds and bets which guarantees a profit, regardless of the outcome of the gamble. It is associated with probabilities implied by the odds not being coherent.  Here's the my first Dutch bet:

Sunderland v Fulham, 16 December 2017

Bet 1:  Skybet.  Sunderland, £150 @ 2.88, potential profit = £282
Bet 2:  Unibet.  Draw, 128.30 @ 3.4, potential profit = £307.92
Bet 3:  Stan James.  Fulham, £140 @ 3.13, potential profit = £298.20

If Sunderland win, I win £282 at Skybet and lose £128.30 at Unibet + £140 at Stan James.  £282 - (£128.30 + £140) = £13.70 profit

If Fulham win, I win £298.20 at Stan James and lose £150 at Skybet + £128.30 at Stan James.  £298.20 - (£150 + £128.30) = £19.90 profit

If there's a draw, I win £307.92 at Unibet and lose £150 at Skybet + £140 at Stan James.  £307.92 - (£150 + £140) = £17.92 profit

Worst-case scenario (and unfortunately most likely based on odds) is a £13.70 win.  Best-case scenario is £19.90 profit if Fulham win.  Come on Fulham!
