Nachos and NASCAR

This week's blog is best enjoyed whilst listening to this fantastic ambiental house composition from 1990.  I remember listening to this song in my bedroom when I was younger and thinking how wonderful the desert sunsets must have been... And then this week, we were lucky enough to start the week with some little fluffy clouds and a fantastic sunset over Phoenix.

Little fluffy clouds

I have spent most of the week learning to play my new video game!  I don't have a photo of my setup, but it comes complete with a touch screen, throttle and stick.  Lots to learn, but I'm getting better each day...

On Thursday this week, Maps and I hosted our coursemates for pre-dinner drinks at the hotel prior to heading out for nachos and pizza.

Waiting for the crew to arrive

Victor, Johnny, Alfa, Maps, Mickey, Crab (back), Rehab (front), Siv and me!

Too many drinks, too few nachos

We had Friday off work to commemorate Veterans' Day.  Damn, it feels good to be a veteran!  We ventured a little further from the hotel for dinner and came across this little fellow outside PF Chang's restaurant:

Horse of the week

And then on Saturday, the highlight of the week - Nascar!  It's essentially a hillbilly jamboree with a lot of background noise masquerading as a motorsport.  On the plus side, there was an awesome 'smoke show' before the race featuring a father/daughter stunt driving team, two brothers riding motorbikes inside a steel ball and the British drifting champion, Baggsy, sliding around the car park.

These girls kept blocking my view of the good stuff :(

Double 'merica!

The world's least interesting motorsport

Ear plugs essential!

And finally an update on my new hobby / income stream.  My matched betting profit for this week = £190.03  Total to date = £204.92  And here is a worked example to explain the process...

Betfred offers a £30 free bet when you stake at least £10 as a joining offer.  I found odds of 6 to BACK Burton to beat Millwall in the football league match on 4 Nov.  I found LAY odds on Betfair of 5.5 - this actually produced an overround book and so I was guaranteed a profit regardless of the result.

I placed a BACK (normal) bet £10 on Betfred at odds of 6 for a potential win of £60, or a profit of £50, if Burton WON and I would lose £10 if Burton DID NOT WIN (i.e. lost OR drew).

I then placed a LAY bet (i.e. accepting someone else's BACK bet) of £11.01 at odds of 5.5, for a potential WIN of £10.46 (my £11.01 stake -5% commission) if Burton DID NOT WIN and a LOSS of £49.55 if Burton WON.

Regardless of whether Burton won or did not win, I would be £0.45 better off with a £30 free bet to come:

-  Burton win = £50 from Betfred, £49.55 to Betfair = +£0.45
-  Burton do not win = £10 to Betfred, £10.46 from Betfair = +£0.46

After this, I used the £30 free bet on the Sweden v Italy football match with the following odds:

Betfred, final score 1-1 = 6.5, stake = £30, potential profit = £165, potential loss = £0 (free bet)
Betfair, final score 1-1 = 7.2, stake = £23.08, potential profit = £21.93 (£23.08 -5% winning commission), potential loss = £143.10

-  Score 1-1 = £165 from Betfred, £143.10 to Betfair = £21.90 profit
-  Score not 1-1 = £0 from Betfred, £21.93 from Betfair = £21.93 profit

I have no idea what the final score was, but it wasn't 1-1, so I received £21.93 from Betfair.

Total profit for the two stages = £22.39.

Total time expended = 10 mins.

Tax due = £0

Simples.
